Grief and Loss:
At Sisters of Grief (S.O.G), we understand that taking care of your overall well-being is very important. If you are thriving in all parts of your life, then it will be much harder for grief and loss to have a negative effect on you.
What is Grief and Loss?
Grief: The normal process of reacting to a loss. The loss may be physical (such as a death), social (such as divorce), occupational (such as a job). Physical reaction of grief can include change in appetite, illness, sleeping problems or physical problems.
Loss: The act or fact of losing something or someone. Some of the most painful and most difficult losses are those of; parent or sibling, death of spouse or significant other, child, traumatic circumstances (such as disaster or loss of limbs) and suicide, just to name a few. Types of Loss: Predictable vs. Sudden
Predictable losses are due to terminal illnesses and old age of which can create two layers of grief: the grief related to the loss and the grief related to the anticipation of the loss itself. Predictable losses, sometimes give you more time to prepare for the loss of your loved one.
Sudden losses like, suicide, accidents, or violent crimes on the other hand can be extremely traumatic. These occurrences can tear down your levels of confidence and security in what we call the "Norm." There is no way to prepare. Suddenly, you may experience symptoms such as nightmares, social isolation, depressed moods, severe anxiety and destructive behaviors (such as drugs and alcohol).
